Black-necked Grebe II
Another shot of this beautiful bird, this one is smaller in the frame but the colour in the water is what attracts me to the image which I think sets the grebe off perfectly. I wanted to post some fox cubs up but even though I have been working on them for over two weeks the little buggers have eluded me.

Such fine detail in the bird Danny and a wonderful serene environment. Rally like it. Nice work.

Would like to see more of the water disturbance under the bird to make this work, not as good as your last one!

Great stuff Mr D but I think I liked the other more too.
Still a great image though. Well done

Lovely comp and the silky water is just great - shame the water disturbance is cut off on the left but its a lovely image regardless

Beautiful image - can't fault it. The wake trailing out of the frame doesn't detract at all - the shot's all about the grebe and the serenity of its environment.

Great abstract image thanks to the diffuse bg/water. Would probably agree with comments about the clipping of the water wake, but would add that shooting a varity of images gives loads of potential for editorial use - I can see type plastered all over this to great effect.

Your not a bad photographer, you!!

Cheers,
Chris

Hello Chris

I had that in mind as I do when most things are in the view finder but on this ocaision the grebe was moving quite fast as you can see from the wake in front of him and was leaving a very long wake in the still water anyway so if I used the wake as part of the picture the grebe would be swimming out of the shot, which in my opinion never works with a moving subject so I have to disagree with that comment, I would be interested to hear how others would have composed the shot.

I guess the other logical comp is bird bottom left with more space up top but I think that your crop works best and is probably the 'top' crop for the situation - but you knew that anyway hence why you shot it like that! :toast:

Very nice. Superb details in the bird with good colours & light.
The dissapearing wake & bow wave give a nice impression of movement.
I would like to see it with the bird in the lower 3rd of the frame(still on the left) but your chosen comp still works very well.
A cracking all round image as it is. :toast:

Nothing wrong with the composition Danny, just a very minor point about the wake. In the circumstances what else could you do - maybe the bird a smidge further in from the left or a slightly wider view? Either way, for me, it's still an effective shot, particularly for editorial use.

Chris

Prefer this a lot more to the close up you posted, the reflections are amazing! I think the comp works perfectly.

10/10 .However as an image I prefer the previous . As a marketable image this suits a double spread admirably . :toast: :toast:

Stunning image, reminds me of the slideshow Rob Jordan showed us up in Scotland, such a pretty bird! (and very well captured!)

I like it where it is to be honest, you get the subtle reflection putting it in the top third. The eye is very striking and makes a good focal point.

Very nice indeed. The mirror calm water makes an exceptional setting.
Composition works perfectly for me. :toast: :toast:

It's another beauty, although I also prefer the previous post. I don't really understand the editorial and marketing stuff - but I like both images.
