By accident and not by design, it looks like my arrival in Moab Friday will coincide with the full moon.
Anyone have any suggestions for locations for awesome moon rise shots?
Thanks Steve...
I had Delicate Arch in mind, but didn't know about the moons location.
I plan on hitting False Kiva, Dead Horse Point, Corona Arch, Aztec Butte, Wilson Arch and Poison Spider Mesa this weekend.
If you see a Malibu with firefighter license plates while you're out, I'm probably nearby.
I've captured a moonrise coming up over the LaSals driving along the road that leads from the Island in the Sky visitors center toward Mesa Arch. Unfortunately, the moon rises after sunset tomorrow, so it'll be tough to get a correct exposure, especially 'cause it has to clear the mountains first.
What you should try and get is the moonset on Sunday morning! It'll happen before, during and just after sunrise for great light, rising at 230°-235° (S 50°-55° W).
Thanks for the suggestion John. You are correct. Sunrise at 6:10 and moon set at 6:45. Hopefully the storm approaching from the NW will not pull up a think blanket of high clouds.
if you venture south of Moab to the Needles district of Canyonlands NP you can shot something like this.
Another great place is along the Colorado River road (UT-128). From the intersection of 191 and 128, go about 15 miles East. You can get a really cool shot as the moon rises above cliffs and the Colorado River.
Christopher...the brewery is most definitely on my list of places to visit, but I certainly don't want to see the "full-moons" that might show up in the lot!
Rene, that's a great shot! And, thanks for the tip...

Look for me up there when you are out and about tomorrow.

Wish I could be there....
Sunday morning sounds promising, however...
