Having never been there, I could use some ideas on books, websites, references, etc. Can't seem to find any good, up-to-date books on Glacier photo locations for photos (have a couple outdated books). Any good spots you can recommend?

Thanks in advance! :wavey:

I would recomend the entire park  Seriously, how many days do you have? By the way, it is one of my very favorite places. Going to the Sun road of course is a must. And are you talking about hiking or just driving. Don't miss Avalanche Creek Gorge! It's a very short hike through some gorgeous spruce and hemlock forest. Lake MacDonald, St. Mary's Lake, Swiftcurrent Lake are marvelous. Be sure and visit my website for a few looks at some of these places, to maybe get some ideas.

i will be there for 5 days with family- they're not photogs so photo time will be semi-limited (sunrises, early morning, maybe a couple sunsets). Most photography will be limited to driving or short-distance hikes (<4 miles roundtrip). I'm also driving down to north Yellowstone for a couple days.

I suggest you order Robert Hitchman's Photograph America newsletter for Glacier. He updated it in Nov. 2008. It's only $9.00 for the printed version, probably less for the PDF. Well worth the investment. Have fun in Glacier - it's a gorgeous park! He also has a newsletter or two for Yellowstone.

That's an excellent idea!
Here's the direct link to Hitchman's Glacier Park PDF guide.

I haven't been there in a long time, but some of the places that are easy access would be the view down Lake McDonald from Apgar at sunrise. If your family is into some hiking, I would hike up to Hidden Lake from Logan Pass it's well travelled and only a couple miles round trip...or the Hanging Gardens if you're there in July for wildflowers. Also, on the east side is a lodge at Many Glacier on a lake that gives boat tours. There's a photo everywhere, and the Going to the Sun Road is a lot of fun to drive! Lots of short trails off the road to flowing creeks coming off the mountains with lots of wildflowers surrounding them, and some falls. There is Baring Falls off the road on the east side of Logan Pass that had beautiful clear water with gorgeous colored rocks. Have fun!

I also recommend Hidden Lake from Logan Pass, late afternoon to sunset is great for this spot. It's also an easy hike, although it is at altitude.

I liked the Goose Island Overlook at sunrise as well as Swiftcurrent Lake. There are a couple images from these spots on my website. These would require basically no hiking at all. I ran into a lot of haze from smoke from fires on the west coast, which made things pretty ugly once the sun was up higher. I got lucky with a cold front that cleaned up the skys, hopefully the fires wild be down this summer.
