Shot this last year, really liked the way the moon was peaking out behind this building thunderhead. Unfortunately the cloud was way brighter then the rising moon, and made it difficult to bring out the moon. Struggled some processing it.
I agree this has the potential for a vey cool image. I agree about maybe losing some of the black, maybe bring the cloud edges to the corners. It may to much but give it a try. Another possiblity would be to crop out some of the cloud which would take away some of the brightness...maybe a pano crop? You could try a brightening density mask on the moon to see if would bring it out more and burn just the highlights of the clouds or try a curve adjustment on just the cloud to pull down the brightness. keep fighting on this one as it is worth the effort in my opinion.
This does seem like it would be a tough one to process. A very creative shot Kevin and well put together at that. I think if the moon is kept as is the brighter clouds work well against the dark moon. If the moon is dodged I think it would benefit to lum mask the clouds for detail and darker tones against a brighter moon. Hope this makes sense, and nevertheless a stunning image and very dramatic.
Very interesting shot, Kevin. I would definitely do something to bring up the moon a bit. Some careful local contrast enhancement might work, perhaps with a subtle burning down of the cloud highlights (bright lights or super lights luminosity mask, maybe).

Or, what about cropping out more of the dark sky???
Tim!
When I posted this I was thinking about trying a crop of the sky, so here it is...
