In a few days, I'll have the use of a Nikon D1x on extended loan. I couldn't find much about this camera here in the forums. I will want to get comfy with it fast, as we're in the thick of spring here in the NE-- prime shooting time. Also, I'll have a musical to cover. I'm just curious about pitfalls, tips, reviews good & bad, advice, etc. I've read online reviews (now old) & am therefore aware of some battery issues, etc. I would love to have some links to any online galleries someone here may have with photos from a D1x you've used.
Partly I'm trying to gauge how it will compare to what I'm using now (when I'm able to borrow it), which is an Olympus Evolt-500. I believe when I finally buy my own digital camera, it will be one of the top Nikons, so it makes sense for me to get the feel of this Nikon even though it's older. I've enjoyed the E-500 for many reasons, but have plenty of gripes too. The only other Nikon I've handled much is my daughter's Coolpix 5700.
The bulk of my photography is outdoor nature in natural lighting. I do some stock, but much of my stock is also nature & landmarks, since that's what I'm happiest doing. (All low ISO) Otherwise I do the usual family events, etc. and certainly do a lot of photography when I travel (in recent yrs., only domestic travel). My workhorse camera back the day was a Minolta X-700, and it still serves me well when I don't have digital available. Macro is one area I most aspire to do more of-- I have not yet owned a true macro lens. I would consider buying one for the Nikon once I've heard some advice on the D1x. It's only 5 mp as compared to the Olympus' 8 mp (but yes, I'm aware of the rectangular pixels & some of the other interesting quality considerations). So... have at it, folks; what can you tell me? Thanks!
ETA: The lens I'll have to use right now is the Nikon 24-85 f2.8 - 4. The flash is a Nikon SB800. I use PS (CS 2) for processing. So far, I tend to shoot highest quality jpgs most of the time because I fill up cards very fast. I'm open to changing that... (I always convert to PSD before processing; I don't edit jpgs except some snapshots)

Hi,
I just got a D1X about 2 month ago, it´s my first Digital camera. The results I have gotten so far have been really good, sorry have no online photos from it yet. But once I get my monitor calibrated, I will upload some from my recent trip and honeymoon to the Canadian Rockies.
It have been easy to use, and have in many ways been like using my F100 film SLR.
Hope this helps.
