Long-Tailed Tit
Like Cheryl, I have spent many hours over last couple of weekends watching these going to and from the nest site. They only have one brood per year, but up to a dozen young. The siblings from the previous years brood that don't pair up with others, frequently help their parents raise their current years offspring. Sadly, whilst studying these, one of them was taken by a sparrowhawk much to my amazement. But within half an hour of that event, and them composing themselves again, life got back to normality, and they continued to feed the youngsters.

Some of you may dislike the lighting in this, but I liked the way the face and food is highlighted.

Cropped on rhs for composition, and a leaf on lhs removed as it annoyed me!!

A nice pose and the food in the beak adds interest. I'm not that keen on the bird being partially in shadow but it certainly does highlight the birds face and food, as you say, which is a bonus.

Hello Fran.

Nice capture and good detail. Works for me as the light is were it needs to be.

Hi Fran,

I like it as it is due to the main area of interest being the brighter part of the picture. That said, more even lighting would have been better IMO as the content is strong enough to draw you in to the details.

I hope that makes sense.

Cheers

Lighting in the right place and added interest with the insect in its beak. Excellent.

Hi Barrie,

Thanks for your comment. Apart from all the bits mentioned above, there has been no work done on this image of any kind out of the ordinary. I haven't used any other software on it either.

Although surrounded by trees, I did position the camera in order to pick up a cleanish b/g that was in the distance, through a gap in the immediate trees, if that makes sense?

Cheers,

Fran :toast:
