I grabbed this quick image while my dad and I walked to the top of the waterfall area above Helen Hunt Falls today. The light was crappy and there are some distracting elements, but I wanted to grab some kind of image. Thanks for looking.

Justin, I think you know that those sticks and branches are the distracting parts of the image. However, I don't think the light is bad -- after all this kind of light allows for the slow shutter speed. I think with a different composition you could have done just fine with this type of image. Perhaps zooming in an isolating some of the interesting rapids?

I actually like that large brach hanging down into the comp. It provides an anchor on top to counterbalance that great anchor at the bottom in that dominant rock. Looks good, esp. for a grab shot.

Paul,

Thanks for the honest feedback. For me, this was the closest zooming I thought would still produce an acceptable composition. Thanks again.

Todd,

I agree, the branch does give perspective, but I think the branches on the left are still a little too distracting. Thanks for your feedback.

I actually think the top branch is more distracting than the side ones. But i like this overall, some great action in the cascade and good exposure. Ive converted a few shots of the falls like this to B&W and they came out pretty decent.

The branch on the top doesn't bother me. I agree w/Todd in that I think it gives balance to the top & bottom of the image. It's not overly bright, so my eyes still stay on the falls. Good shutter speed. This is a great "grab" image.
