Many thanks to Gary and Ros, Kevin, Mark, Eric and newcomer Laurence for attending. Thankfully the stormy weather of Friday had abated so the event wasn't a total washout.
The day started very early on the river Elan with a suprising turn-out, clearly I need to set a more challanging time! Nothing special turned up but good views of dipper and a very territorial pied wagtail chasing the grey wagtails. Earlier a pair of female goosander had flown over.
The Elan woodland was buzzing with wood warbler song, but unfortunately not much else, the over cast skies meant that the pied flycatchers were rather shy this year. Still we were treated to some fantastic close up displays from a very obliging wood warbler and a very vocal redstart in the car park.
After lunch we split into two groups, Eric, Mark and Laurance were game for chasing more wood warbler, Kevin ,Gary and Ros and I spent a further hour on the river.
As the day progressed the weather worsened meaning that Gigrin was a bit of a wash out with horrible grey skies for any kite flying shots but it at least allowed some corvid photography!
The image is an obliging dipper from the lunchtime session, consequently the light was very harsh, but probably the closest I have been to a Dipper resulting in Kevin dubbing me "the bird magnet" - don't tell the wife.
Again, thanks for the work you put in for this day. Great to meet up with everyone and i hope you all got home safely message, and yes next time i'm going to sit where you sit!!!!
Thanks for organising a great day. I too had a first - a flying Tawny Owl by the river in the morning (no images though). I didn't come up with any great images, but it was nice to meet everyone....
