Downy Emerald -Cordulia aenea
Spent a pleasurable few hours at my local patch today damsel/dragon/bug hunting. Was very pleased to find this newly emerged (male I think) downy emerald, and got several decent shots.Shame I couldn't get the head in the shot clearly though.

The damsels were more plentiful today, but this one was the highlight of the day for me.

Canon 40D,180mm macro,ISO 400,f10,1/200th sec, cable release.

a nice image Fran, I like the soft lighting on the wings. Did the kinked abdomen straighten at all?

Like you say, shame the head's not clear, but nice shot all the same. Not sure whether the composition suits all the empty space on top though.

Matt, he managed to pump his wings up, but took off before the tail had time to straighten. But I assume it did eventually lol

As you say a shame about the head but well spotted and shows the relatively newly emerged state nicely...

Nicely seen Fran, nit mentioned but a well illustrated emergent dragon.
