Not quite a fox...
Hi all,

Given the recent excellent fox and fox cub images posted, (and given that I haven't been out with the camera in weeks :frown:) I thought I'd give this one a go. This is a black backed jackal pup just coming out of the den. He was the confident one of three ln the den - fantastic little guys!

If you're interested, the two shyer pups can be seen here:

I love the lighting on this, Billy. Perhaps a little wasted space on the left of the picture, but otherwise no nits as far as I am concerned.

Thanks guys. Mark, it's a largely diurnal species, so no early morning frustration when working with them

Thanks for the comments

a nice shot and interesting to see something a bit different. The pup has an impressive pair of ears! :)

Know the area well Billy, nice to see them and something different rather than the Flamingos. Looks a tad warm to me, but still a nice capture?

BTW have they finished the road now from Nairobi? :toast:

Hi Steve,

yeah, they've finished the road finally, its amazing! Less than 2hrs drive from my parents house in nairobi to nakuru - perfect for a night or two over the weekend

thanks for the comments

Nice to see the not so shy one as well Billy! AGain those big ears are just great, and the comp. is perfect! I do wodner if you used the s/h tool on the cub? he looks just a little washed out to me but maybe it's just the light...

Cheers! :toast:

Hi Jorne,

I didn't use S/H, but I did do a slight selective curves adjustment on the pup to bring out some of the shadow detail a bit more. Maybe I overdid it, my monitors still playing up
