Tried to get out this weekend to one of my local woods thinking that I would try my hand at a little landscape type images. Most of the Bluebells in this wood were coming to an end but still offered some opportunities. This kind of thing is a real first for me so I'm guessing lots of practice is needed..
Anyway, I'm grateful of advice and comments, even if it's 'don't give up the day job'..!
looks good to me Brett, I think the composition works very nicely with the fern positioned as it is. A lot of the trees seem to be leaning to the left, even though the ground looks level - probably not much you can do about that.
You are right Matt about the trees but that is the way they were.. This particular wood has two slopes one that runs to the right of the frame toward a road and the other down the 'Downs', so I'm guessing the trees get wind blown or were simply planted that way..
Very nice Brett, I like this a lot. I may just tone down the green in the background a tad. I think this image would also have benefited from sharpness front to back. If you couldn't get a smaller aperture maybe a blend of different focus points might have helped?
Hi Brett,
Not my personal cup of tea, but I think you have done some good things here, and one of the best is to include that single group of ferns which gives the eyes something to centre on. I'm not worried about the tree trunks - perfectly straight ones are relatively rare.
very nice image and I think it works very well. The leaning trees do not bother me at all, I would however tone down the bg a little bit with some curves, the light green is a little distracting now.
Hi Brett - Nice shot - I think this image would work well with an application of the Orton Effect to give it a dreamscape type feel (if that's the type of thing you like!)
Works for me Brett, although I agree about toning down the light green at the top of the image or even cropping it... seems to work well if you crop about a third off the height of the trees....
For me its a lovely image and the composition is spot on for what you had to work with.
Other than the one nit covered I think I would like to see alittle more detail in the tree trunks. I like them being dark but not black. I think this would also stop the greens form looking to bright. As I find the greens very nice.
Nits covered, but overall I think it is a super image Brett. The inclusion of the bracken in the foreground breaks it up nicely and gives extra interest. Like it lots.
