Coot with chicks
Canon 40D, Sigma 500 f4.5, f8, iso 200, 1/250 -1/3, Tripod.

This image made me laugh. There were four chicks sitting on top of the nest, and blocking moms head from view. So there I was moaning to my self saying why could'nt there just be three chicks. As soon as I said this mom moved her head and knocked one of them of the nest. Poor little thing, but for me he could'nt have stopped in a better place and made a nice composition in the image. As soon as he stopped him self he was soon back in the nest and straight back under moms wing.

Thanks for looking.

Guy... another fine example of NH photography, particularly of one of our more common species that is often overlooked...

Lovely image of these 'common' birds and great story to go with it! We have two coots nesting in the park behind my house but I did not see any chicks yet. :wavey:
