I've been taken with recent posts showing the subject partly hidden in OOF stuff (mush). With this one, I was shooting from the car and I caught a glimpse of this wheater in a tiny window of grasses. To my pleasant surprise, the face is sharp. Love it or hate it, but it's growing on me.
Love it! The thing about these type of images is that they give the impression of having a privileged view of the subect, very voyeuristic! I think this is a lovely picture.
I think John's spot on with the appeal of a 'privileged view of the subject'. Of course it works particularly well when the subject is well lit and properly sharp as this one is.
Indeed it works well but I'm a fan of mush anyway... I might trim a little of the top though, had the bird been looking up it would be fine but at the moment I think there is too much negative space above... (thats just me though).

Also a big fan of mush, but this is well used mush and conveys the feeling of privilege as John says.

A very nice interpretation John makes a good point. The sharp head enhances the photo and takes it to a class of its own.
