A close-up of a Large Red Damselfly. Best viewed LARGE to see the interesting detail in the eyes. Taken at around 3:1 magnification.

Canon 450D with MPE-65 macro lens. F10, 1/160, ISO 100, diffused Speedlight on side bracket, handheld.

All C+C welcomed.

Not normally my sort of image but this is a really good close up of this damselfly... a very intimate view.. I might just up the contrast ever so slightly...

(BTW yes we do get small Red Eyed but very difficult to get images, one of the best sites for them is in fact the Pond outside of the Blue Water shopping centre)

All the best

Technically superb Matt - not my 'bag' as it's a bit too much of a 'scientific reference' shot, but it's pretty much flawless and, considering the glass is a hard thing to master, a credit to your technical skill. :wavey: :wavey:

many thanks both. I realise there's not much artistic about these kind of shots but sometimes I can't resist (particularly when it's too windy for natural light shots)!

Hello Matt.

Just excellent.

As nature photographers I think its important to have these very closeups in our portfolios, as well as the pictorial ones.
