Compared to my last upload, this male adder was a far calmer and more cooperative individual and was photographed in late afternoon sun. He was found by Brett Lewis at a site in Surrey. I am pleased with this shot, and consider it my best whole body of an adder to date. Feel free to disagree!

Thanks for your comments, guys. As you can see from this second shot, Paul, I did actually get a lot closer than the original posting. I do, however, work with adders (and other reptiles), so I don't recommend going too close unless you are confident in what you are doing. Phil, you are right about Brett - snakes seem to keep their eyes on him the whole time
Superb David, I really like the first image with the slight crop as mentioned. Agree, about it being one of your best images of snakes to date as well. I'm glad you took full advantage of the situation and got the most out of it. It has been a good season for herps this year and I look forward to seeing more from you.
cracking animal and the eye is superb, very brown for a male, all the males in my area are usually black and grey, only the females have this amount of brown, but they are very variable. He is also a very bright individual, supoer shots

Lovely shot and one I would be pleased with as well.
Agree with Phil a bit of the top would help make the image even stronger.

The repost is superb, one of the nicest closeups I have seen.
Would have made an excellent post on its own.
