http://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/conditions.htm says maybe Friday. My wife and I are planning on doing it this year, but hopefully on a cooler weekend. Although we are probably going to get cooked almost as bad backpacking around Hetch Hetchy this Friday/Saturday instead.
The cables were not up this week-end. A friend hiked up, and they were still down.
However there are a few pairs of gloves up there, and he did go up, but he said it is a little tiring to pull the on the cables. There is also some snow left up there.
They'll have to raise them for Memorial.

Matt, Thanks for the link. I hope they do get them up there by Saturday. The weather says it's not going to get much higher than 70 up there. Have fun at Hetch Hetchy.
Dan, so you can hike up without the cables. I'm excited there is snow up there still and everything is green below.
It seems like it would be easier going up than coming down those cables. Thanks for the info.
Dam, that goes to show you can't just rely on one weather service. W underground should be the more reliable source since that is what NPS post's from? Thanks for the extra info Matt.
Howard Scheckter says it will be warm in Mammoth, should be pretty hot in Yosemite. I find Howard to be the most accurate weather source for the Sierra.
Steve, expect fairly warm weather this weekend. But there is still a fair amount of snow at the higher elevations. According the the snow-plow report, there is still 4 1/2 feet of snow at Tuolumne Meadows. The top of Half Dome gets good sun exposure, so probably no major problems. Have fun and enjoy the view. Best Regards.
I'm gonna be hiking the dome in a couple weeks for the second time. Hopefully I won't get lost this time

Jetson, it took me and my girlfriend about 9 hours to do it. Not counting the walk to and from Curry Village. I can see how you can get lost with all the forks trying to lead to you to half dome via the John Muir trail. Most people just intend on taking the mist trail. There is a good reason for that, the mist trail is harder on your knees and the mist trail gets pretty crowded and soon as most hikers get on the trail. You can find the trail with both routes on google earth. It's like a virtual tour that shows most of the trip with a few shots along the way. The very end of the trail it gets really steep and then you have the cables but the rest of if it easy. We did the trail Saturday morning and my calves are still killing me today.
Sorry if this is a partial hijack but has anyone tried hiking Half Dome from Glacier Point to Half Dome and then from Half Dome through the Mist Trail/Happy Isles. There will be someone who can drop us off at Glacier Point and pick us up at Happy Isles so that isn't an issue. I hear it's a longer hike but not as strenous.
