Delicate Arch
I was lucky enough to make a trip to Moab back in November. Here is one of the images that I like very much from the trip. It is a blending of exposres for both the sky and the arch itself. It was Election Day and the wind was blowing about 40 miles per hour. For anyone who has been up there you can understand why I was very hestitant to stand up during my time there.

A remarkable rock formation. I love the angle you selected for your image. I suppose your time there was short, which would explain why you shot it from the shadow side. Of course, with such an interesting formation, even the play of shadow across the surfaces of the rock are visually interesting.

As a birder, I often resort to flash fill to brighten up shadows and bring out colors. Would that work with a shot like this or is that considered a "no no" in landscape photography?

BTW - I love your Disraeli quote. He also came up the famous, "There are lies, damn lies and statistics"

Daniel,
At this time of day you would have to have a helicopter to shoot it from the lighted side as it is a sheer drop of several hundred feet opf the back of that bad boy. Even so, I very much like the way the shadows play across this beautiful piece of sandstone.

Fill flash would have done something here I am sure but I prefer the image lighted as it is.

I like the perspecitve, and it looks like you had some great clouds to work with. On my monitor, there does appear to be a halo around the arch.

That is certainly an iconic place that I've never been to but would like to see someday. I don't mind your image from the shadow side at all, in fact it adds more areas of contrast with the extra shadows.

Rob,
As I look at the image I see exactly what you are talking about. No doubt some sharpening problem. I'll look into it.

Far better than anything I got at Delicate Arch Bob. I like theshooting position here; you were able to incorporate the distant formations that house the Windows Arches in the bg. Nice sky and wonderful texture in the fg rock. An amazing place ... just wish I could have seen it at the edge of the day without 70 people milling around its base!
