Muntjac fawn
Came across this completely by accident the other day. It lay at the side of a ride partly out in the open. First I have ever come across in a lifetime working with deer.
After taking a few shots we went away and watched from a good way back and after a while the parent came back and went off with it. It can't have been more than a few hours old. It was actually very near to an active fox earth so its chances of survival could be threatened. They are such tiny things at that age.
These deer are becoming much more common in the forest now, and have even turned up on a nearby housing estate.

Such a wonderful find for you John! Wish they were more common down south, a great find indeed.

Never seen a munty fawn John so I'm quite envious

Not a situation where I'd go for anything other than what you've got here - crawling around for a better PoV would be just plain irresponsible, so congrats on that, and what a super find.

Not quite as cute as a Roe fawn, those musk glands always creep me out a bit

Nice one :wavey:

A great find John and you have made a good job of a difficult situation.

Thanks both.
Yes Andy - we didn't want to encourage the wrath of the animal rights people., and there was no point anyway.
(Depite the fact that 90% one of these seen in the forest will end up shot !
I wanted to put it in a bunch of bluebells but my lad said No ! (JOKE) !!
Fran
You wouldn't want one in your garden !
Cheers
