Southern Marsh Orchid
haven't had much time for photography of recent but managed to get out briefly this afternoon. Experimented with a different style here, inspired by Niall Benvie's images though i should imagine that is fairly evident. Used a piece of white paper behind the flower and a flash in front, was a bit of a nightmare in the end as i forgot my tripod collar at home.

I know the leaves are a bit tatty which rather contrasts with the studio look to the pic but i there weren't many out yet, so i had to make do.

Vvery different ! This kind of thing is ideal in an ID book.
I,ve been doing the same but with a black backgound.!
Good stuff
PS I've just made a small tripod with nails in the end of the legs which stick into the ground. - ! Boy is is solid !
Cheers

Jack, good morning

I'm flattered - thank you for the acknowledgment! If you get a chance, you might like to substitute the white card with Perspex and backlight it. This will really make the plant glow. It's a bit of a fiddle, but worth it. I posted an article on my blog the other day under Technical Articles if you are interested.

Best

Niall

Nice shot. I did read about this method and I'm also trying it, but the results are not as good as I did hope. I'll keep practising.

A good try for something a little different... you have some tone coming in on the bg.... if you use the PS dodge tool set to low opacity and for highlights you can clean that up nicely (seem to remember somewhere though you don't use Photoshop, may be wrong)

Phil - hadn't noticed the tone, you are right i don't have photoshop but i do have elements now which has a dodge tool too so i should be alright
