Turtle Rocks Petit Jean By Night
The turtle rocks atop Petit Jean are an amazing site to see..I got this idea in my head to shoot them at night, so Mike and I headed to the mountain last night and took some shots. I am pretty happy with the way it turned out, but we definitely plan on returning to really fine tune the shot. This is definitely a tandem shot, I did the shooting and directing, while Mike was my painter extroidanaire!
Let us know what you think!

An intriguing image. Being a scenicly-challenged photographer, I am guessing this was done with long exposure and a small, handheld light "painting" the scene from somwhere off to the right? I look forward to seeing some interesting variations on the above in the future.

Its nice to see a star for a change. I couldn't tell you the last time I saw a star in the sky.

Oops, I forgot to put all that technical stuff...
Exif info: Nikon D200
10.5 mm
Exposure Time 60.00 sec
Aperture f/4
ISO Equivalent 200
Mike actually painted from both sides and painted from the back of the image to get some of the trees...He was hoppin all over those rocks!

That was a shorter version and yes the light is off to the right. We did several variations and drove to several locations on the mountain doing the same. Three hours of painting.

Here is one of the longer exposures and lit from three locations. About ten minute exposure.
Experimentation required and next time we will remember a notebook to take notes.

FYI: Don't cover the lense. Our star streaks are dotted because Karla would cover the lense while I turned on a light to see where I was going for the next spotlight location.

Lots of fun! I look forward to doing this more often. And I didn't twist an ankle tonight.

Looks like you guys had fun! Like Matthew said, it is nice to see a few stars in the Arkanas skies.

This does look like a lot of fun, and interesting to experiment with. Both are really nice.
