Was really scraping around for some invertebrates to photograph over the weekend and after a complete blow-out of any attempt to photograph dragons and damsels we (Tony Flashman and I) managed to happen across some roosting Common Blues. The sun was setting fast and this female was quite obliging and stayed on a stem for quite some time. However to get it to stay still in the stiff breeze I had to use another bit of grass and tie it to a stick! All in-situ so you can see she was very obliging.. My Plamp was useless in this situation as it just exaggerated the issues. Anyway, first for the year..
Kind regards,
Brett

I was shown a trick some time ago, straighten a wire coat hanger and fix a clothes peg to the end with a rubber band. You can bend the coat hanger to any shape you want and push it easily into the ground - then its dead easy to tether the grass stem below your subject - a very early and much cheaper version of the "Plamp"
If you are using a tripod just put some thick rubber bands on one leg and you can tie in the wire coat hanger pushed through the rubber bands
very nice Brett, this individual seems quite early. I can fully relate to your frustrations regarding the breeze but you got an excellent shot in the end.
