Great Egret gathering nesting materials
This male (supposedly) Egret was busy gathering nesting material at Lake Martin in hopes of pleasing his mate's demanding standards!

40D, 700mm, f9, 1/1000, ISO 800. Cropped about 30%.

Oooh Wow! I really like this one! Great control on the highlights...The surroundings really add to it. Great crop too...

Another fine capture Daniel. What I like about this image is the lines formed by the egret's wings, neck and legs. All are visually appealing individually but in concert they help to move the eye around the subject. Well done.

On my monitor the egret appears to have picked up a bluish cast as a web image. Strange.

I spent three hours in the midst of more than 500 egret nests yesterday and was amazed at how these guys often "gather" their twigs - they steal them from other nests! Not just every now and then, but constantly. The interaction between the robbers often makes for fun and interesting photos. This is the first time I'd ever seen these nests and I was amazed at how close together and how close to the surface of the water they build them. You guys down south get to see this all the time but to this hillbilly it was quite a treat!
