Here is something from my adventure on Saturday.. Once again the images taken of this wonderful place just does not do it justice. The size, beauty, and feeling that you get in here can not be explained until you make the trip. It was lush, wet, and very loud. Looking at the creek below the falls it is obvious that there has been some powerful flow in here very recently. One thing that never ceases to amaze me is when you are on top of the falls and see the flow there over the edge it just does not really impress. Then you drop down into the basin and you are very impressed.
And one taken on the way out from below the falls. This is very close to where I dropped down into the creek from the right side of this image. Little did I realize at this time the wonderful adventure that lay ahead of me. All I could think of was the trip in was tough and the trip out has GOT to be easier. Not exactly in my case....but a day I will never forget!
Bob, I vote for # 2 also, a very neat perspective.
I meant to mention when I read you thread on your Saturday adventure, that my wife got me an GPS emergency locator for my birthday. She said if I was going to be out in the woods alone, I had to keep it with me. It is actually pretty nice. In additon to an actuall 911 mode, you can send a text message to up ten cell phones letting your friends and family know you are ok. There is also a help mode for cases like you had Saturday. The 911 mode notifies search and rescue. If you pay for an addtional service it will lay down a "bread crumb" on google earth while it is on.
Amazon has them on sale for $127, plus the yearly subscription. Here is a link:
I've used one of those for a couple of years now Tom - won't leave home without it! You can't use it for navigation through, and the e-mail addresses and text messages are pre-determined and not editable in the field. But it is good to send your exact location to the list, and if you need a family member to rescue you or if you need a real rescue. I also use it just for myself to mark a location that I can bring up later - saves me having to carry a GPS too, which I rarely do. And now that I have purchased a new sports SUV for my lovely teenage daughter, one will ride in her glove box for emergencies - the bread crumb trail feature will secretly get turned on while she is out on dates too!
