GC Storms
I've now processed some of the more difficult images from my April trip. I had intended to capture the sunset from Hopi Point but was beaten to it by a snow storm passing through the Canyon. Here is the first shot. Thanks for looking and all C&C's welcome. :toast: Cliff

And the second ..................

Those low-lying clouds on #2 are very interesting, apart from a couple of small blown highlight areas in the clouds it works really well. #1 is a bit hazy and could maybe benefit from a little added contrast.

Grand Canyon shots by a guy named Cliff? Go figure!

(P.S.: Photo #2 is awesome!)

These are excellent...I really need to get out to the Grand Canyon sometime.

I like the way the hazy conditions add to the layering effect of the canyon in the first shot, a little more contrast might be nice but I like it this way too. Both are pretty nice shots, good work.

These are some of my first attempts to expand my understanding of the capabilities of PS Elements. For the past two and a half years since converting to a DSLR I've restricted myself to what can only be called "basic" processing - adjustments to exposure, levels, contrast, saturation, spot healing, sharpening, frames/resizing etc. - some of it using Elements, some Lightroom and, more recently, Capture NX2. Most of the time this has worked fine but I've found that it leaves the more challenging images flat and disappointing compared to the image I saw through the viewfinder. I then discovered that Elements retains much of the embedded software of the full blown PS but I needed to find out how to access and use these features. With these particular images I've used masks to generate two images, one processed for the clouds and the other for the darker areas of the image. Blending these together using the gradient tool has (I think) taken my processing up a step and I'm encouraged by the initial results and your feedback, so thanks for looking and adding your comments.
Of course I expect most of you guys have been doing this all the time but, hey, some of us are not quite as quick on the uptake ............. :toast: Cliff

Nice shots - esp. #2!

They're both nice. #2 almost makes me feel like I'm flying over the canyon.
The harsh light on the right hand cliffs in #1 is distracting in IMO. If you could bring that down it might help that one.

Shot number 2 looks great, it is one of my favorite views of the canyon.
