Nice to see that a lot of folks have had productive shooting lately. I too had an excellent weekend in the New Mexico outback. I'm actually having trouble deciding which shots to process and share first, a nice problem that I haven't had in a good while. This is looking down from the south end of the Apache Kid Wilderness, southwest of Socorro, New Mexico. 1/15, f14, ISO 200.
I agree...its nice to see the New Mexican landscapes being represented. I live a half hour from the border, but don't shoot down there nearly often enough. This is a perfect example of why I should.
Thanks for the kind words everybody! Jesse, this is pretty off the beaten path. I backpacked about five miles in, mostly on a trail that probably hasn't seen any maintenance in 25 years. I camped in a gorgeous parklike saddle with ponderosas and aspens and bushwhacked up to the peaks for sunset and sunrise. There are roads in those hills at the base of the mountains. I drove out that way the next day, and it was beautiful: golden, twisted, empty hills with very cliffy peaks to the north. It'll be a great place to go in winter.
Incidentally, Apache Kid isn't just a goofy name. This was prime Apache country, and the Kid was a late holdout who was finally killed and buried in what is now the wilderness area. Great history, but I wouldn't have wanted to be a white guy in those mountains 150 years ago.

What a unique area, and you captured it very well.
