Hi all,

One from this afternoon, I was trying to get some shots with a backdrop of oof bluebells, but this little chap was not so cooperative today. Something doesn't quite look right about the shot to me, I think its the perch and the angle the bird is sitting on it. I'm interested to hear what others think.

Thanks for looking,

Lewis.

Hi Lewis

Nice image with good BG - I know what you mean I don't think the pose is ideal. When they are 3/4 side on with the tail toward you this works very well but facing you is often not so good. Not an easy species to capture well!

Beautiful photo, lovely light/detail, not easy to find, you've done really well here lewis, angle is minor for me  :wavey:

Looks pretty good to me. I suppose a more prominent bluebell in the upper right might have balanced it a bit more, but I would be very happy to have taken this.

Works for me Lewis, the Bluebells in the bg is a bonus.

First time I looked at this I thought the subject looked a little stressed and on the point of flying, but second and third time round I'm not sure that is the case. The pose is a little awkward probably due to it standing along the branch, we are more used to seeing small birds sitting across branches and twigs not along them.

Have you used fill-in flash?, the dominant catchlight in the eye looks very hard and there is a softer secondary catchlight behind it. Curiosity only, but if there is in-fill it would help others if the full techs of the capture were given

Nice, the image looks ok to me, i know what you mean about it looking a little weird but i think its nothing serious.

Thanks all, I ll be back at the weekend for another go!

Mike: No, no flash was used, I think the double catch light must be due to the sun filtering through the tree canopy. I don't think this bird is at all stressed, he pays no attention to me whatsoever, all I do is sit and wait for him to come to me. Straight after this shot he moved too close to focus!!

Cheers,

Lewis.
