Gannet Colony, Boreray, St Kilda
Just come back from the Outer Hebrides where I have been waiting for the chance to get out to St Kilda and then to try and land on Boreray. The weather went against us and we failed to land on this impressive Island so it lived up to its name as the impenetrable fortress. I was so impressed by this beautiful island I am already planning a return trip to try again, it really is one of our great natural wonders.

Now you mention it I can see the easy landing point. As Mark above says it almost looks like a scene out of Jurassic Park. :toast: on the attempt. Now that's an environmental shot.

Have to agree, Danny. It's a scary place, but its raw beauty stays with you all your life. Many years ago I was there on a National Trust Cruise and experienced my first sight of hundreds of gannets diving into a shoal of fish we had stirred up with our screws. An incredible, awe-inspiring sight. Unfortunately, it was before I got a decent camera. I think I had a Werra at the time. You're probably too young to remember them....

Hello John

No we were with a special charter from lewis as we were also on the Monarch Isles and the boat had to pick us up from there. We needed complete control of the rib because we also had our own zodiac to reach the shore. A hell of alot of planning went into this trip and it is so dissappointing when things don't always go to plan but as you know the weather can change within the hour up there. Still a fantastic experience.

I'm going over later in June on the boss's 11m Rib. Hope to get some dramatic shots and hope that the engines don't give up

Interesting image Danny and one I keep coming back to.. For reasons already mentioned it's quite appealing and shows the dramatic nature of their nesting sites..

A cracking shot of these birds in their enviroment. The mist over the cliff top adds real atmosphere to the image as does the greenery at the bottom. :toast:
