Hello everyone. I climbed dog mountain for the first time Wednesday evening (such a nice day for a hike - which incidentally made for a quick descent in the dark). I think the wildflowers up there haven't quite reached there prime yet.
For this image I honestly didn't leave myself enough time to get set up for the best composition. I was kind of scrambling around to get the sun before it set. This is a blend of three images at different exposures (I can provide the specific data if you like) and ISO's, although some of the foreground is still a little blurry due to the wind. I appreciate your comments/suggestions, as always.
That's important to know. Are the flowers still to come, or are they already over their prime? I thought it's the latter.
I was planning a trip to the mountain in mid May when I was expecting the full bloom, but because of a busy life I had to cancel the plans, and now I thought it's too late.
Does anybody have some answer to this?
Dog Mt. is usually at peak around mid-May Cezar, but this year is running about 10-14 days late. I was up there a couple of weeks ago and thought this week would be about right for peak this year. The flowers in the image look a bit early, so possibly later in the week will be better for full bloom.
As far as the comp, I'd like to see an image from higher ground where the distant hill (Wind Mt.) is framed by the river. I might have used less sky on such a clear day, but the color is pretty against the yellow flowers. You stated this was a rush job to catch sunset, and I understand that.
