Green Heron Family

Discovered that the pair that was nest building already had one nest with at least five chicks in just a ways further down the lake bank. Out early this AM to see if I could get a good opportunity and was fortunate. Here is the whole family.

The site is rather brushy, but I believe I can count five young beaks in the nest? Heron and Egret chicks are so ugly only a parent could love them! They are little more than beaks surrounded by fuzz!

Looking forward to more images of this energetic family of Herons.

Thanks Daniel. We are going to have to get some better weather, getting lots of rain and more forecast.

Thanks Wayne. Yes, they are very busy tending these five chicks, plus they have built another nest and the female already has started laying eggs in it. Should have a few weeks of some good opportunities. NOW, if ONLY we could get something besides rain and dark clouds.
