In November of last year Richard Bernabe showed me a pdf file with a chapter to a new book project which was a collaboration with the photographers on the Mountain Trail Photography staff and NPN.
From the first page of this pdf I knew I had to have this book. The chapter was on composition. While the content was excellent what really blew me away was the photography.
After waiting six months I finally have my hands on my copy. Let me tell you, the photography in this book is incredible. I couldn't read a word until I had flipped through the pages admiring each image. I find myself flipping through the pages thinking these are some of the best nature photographs I have seen.
The design and layout of this book is more like a book of fine art prints as opposed to the typical learning photography books I have hundreds of. You can't help but think "Is that image big enough to cut out, frame and hang on my wall?"
The text is extremely readable; almost like a conversation. You can tell these guys do a lot of teaching because reading the narrative is like sitting next to them having them explain these concepts to you face to face.
I have read hundreds of books on photography and I can say this book is one of the finest.
Thanks Ed! I was a great project to bring to fruition and it really means a lot when an excellent photographer such as yourself likes the final result!
BTW, for those of you who have purchased the book through Amazon, please feel free to leave a customer review for us . . . all positive and negative comments appreciated (the positive more so than the negative, of course)!
Just got my copy yesterday. Wow! I'm extremely impressed. Definitely one of the better photo books I've come across. The beautiful imagery, and the diversity of the imagery from multiple talented photographers, is what makes this book a step above some others. I hope to learn a lot from this book as well as to be inspired every time I pick it up.
Really looking forward to it, it should arrive friday along with "photographing oregon", amazon's free shipping is a little slow. I will definitely leave a review, I'm sure it will be great considering the author's who wrote it.
Purchased this book to read before our July Alaska trip and I completely agree that it is well worth the money - even if just to use as a coffee table photography book. Add in the excellent content and you have a real winner. I would have liked the content to be a step or two more advanced but that only knocks it down to a 99 instead of a 100. I learned as much from studying the photographs as I did from the text. Highly recommended to everyone.
