Today we drove I-40 eastbound from Amarillo to Oklahoma City and was shocked at the beautiful show of wildflowers from the Oklahoma State Line to the 25 mile marker. I don't know all the names, but there were a wide array of reds, blues, whites and yellows. We exited around the 23MM and traveled the frontage roads taking pictures for an hour or so. Back off the frontage roads,we found several fields of flowers as well. I'll post a picture or 2 once I get back home. If you are in the area and have the time, check it out. I think they will be around for several more days.

Indian Paintbrush, Gaillardia, Mexican Hat, and more are found along Oklahoma highways this time of year. I learned the taxonomy of spring plants collecting flowers along Oklahoma highways. Here is a link that will help you identify most of them. Once you have names for them, they will not longer appear as a blur of color alongside the highway.
