I lucked into being north of the Springs today just in time to see the Thunderbirds practicing for tomorrow's USAFA graduation ceremonies. I had an appointment to keep when they were going strong, but they were still at it when I headed south, so I stopped to see if I could snap a few shots. They never really got close enough (until I put the camera away), but here's about a 50% crop from full frame, shot with my 100-400mm lens at 400, 1/800th sec. @ f11.
Those guys bring the boom over my house each year. They make their turns to line up on the stadium right over my house and the canyon we live in creates some eerie acoustics. Lots of fun to watch them, but I've never gotten to catch such a nice shot of them. Good job Todd!
Great shot, love the angle of the planes! Was this from I-25? I shoiuld go down there today to get some shots but I think I will head for Salida to get wet!
Yup nice shot Todd. I was shotin em from my back yard. Like Mel I catch 'em but on the north end of the runs. I was using a 200mm so they will probably be micro 'birds... always fun to watch 'em though.
Watched the graduation show today from the Lockheed-Martin roof with 50 of my closest friends! Nice show. I was thinking I'd need a 1000mm with a good tripod to get anything but when they flew directly overhead. Nice capture, Todd.
Sweeeeet! Go Junior Birdmen! The Grad Air Show was pretty awesome, i didn't get a chance to pull out the Still Camera but i got some great Footage for the Broadcasts!
