I went up to Pikes Peak today to check out all the snow...it was unbelievable! It felt like winter. Thanks for looking. More from today can be seen on my flickr account.

Justin,
I am in the area and I a looking for a place to shoot sunrise. Where would you sugest. I have to head back to the Denver airport at about noon tomorrow. These Pikes Peak shots look great. I am staying in Colorado Springs tonight. How long to reach the sumit?
Thanks for any help you can provide!

Justin,

Great shots. I really like #1 and the abstract nature of #2.

Randy,

Shot #5 is Garden of the Gods. I would recommend either the Mesa Road overlook or the Visitor's Center parking lot on 30th for this sort of view.

To climb Pikes Peak from the front side is a roughly 25 mile hike round trip with roughly 7000 feet vertical climb. How long depends on your fitness. My 60 year old Dad does it in 5 hours 30 minutes, but he also competes and wins his age group in Ironman triathalons and can run a marathon in just over 3 hours. On the other hand, it would be a VERY big day for me to do it in one day. As in, start before sunrise and end after sunset. As an alternative you can reach the top either by taking the cog railroad or driving up the Pikes Peak Highway.

HERE is what the summit looked like on Sunday. Fun trip up the cog railway with some family in town, but the summit conditions weren't exactly what we were hoping for, as you can see.

Mel,

Remind me to NEVER ask your dad to go hiking with him! Wait..here is a better idea. I'd like to do some back country camping in RMNP. Maybe he'd like to carry my backpack! That is an awesome time for a 25 mile trip up Pikes Peak.

Great shots, Justin, that first one is especially beautiful! What elevation was that at, do you know?

Fine series.
I especially like #1, but the b&w conversion seems a bit 'muddy' to my eye.
With some work, this could be truly spectacular.

Randy,

Sorry I'm getting back to your response so late! I hope you found some good spots for sunrise this morning.

Stan,

Thanks for commenting. This was taken one or two turns below Glen Cove, so around 10,200 ft. maybe?

John,

Thank you too for commenting. Yeah, I agree about the muddiness. I'll recheck my PPing. Any suggestions?

Very nice! Great thing about Colorado is that weather doesn't follow a calendar! I can go from winter images to wildflowers in a matter of weeks

Cool series, Justin. I like the mystery of #3.

Very nice! I would have to say I like #3 the best.
