Day's End
Here’s one final Columbia Hills shot. Jesse and I went out on a Friday evening hoping for a nice sunset. The clouds were very dramatic as the light waned, but the color in the sky never really got going.

This is from a 2x6 stitch blended for DOF and DR. Processing the bright, cheery flowers with the dark, foreboding sky was a bit of a struggle for me; I’m still not sure about the result so any feedback would be appreciated.

Nikon D80
Nikon 12.0-24.0 mm f/4.0 at 12 mm
1/15 & 1/45 sec at f/16.0 and ISO 400

I like the in-your-face low angle you chose for this. I agree with the suggestion to crop out a good portion of the sky.

I think Jesse is right on the money. Had there been some nice light, this would have been a killer shot. The light just isn't there though. The scenery is top notch but its all pretty flat and dull looking as is.

Maybe getting weird and trying a B&W rendition might spice this up a bit? You could add all kinds of contrast in a B&W conversion and still be believable here I bet. Just an idea.

I like the comp and the idea, but the line at the horizon seems unnatural to me.

I love the angle, comp. and flowers John, only sorry their wasn't a more dramatic and colorful sunset. Personally I filnd the sky lacking and it reminds me of the long winter we just left behind. The location is exceptional and I would think revisiting soon with better sky is worth a try.

This is really pretty, John. I do agree with all previous comments about the sky.
