Crex Sunrise with repost
I have been reading Ferrell McCollough’s book on High Dynamic Range photography so I decided to give it a try last week at Crex Meadows. This is my first attempt.

Comments are appreciated.

Very nice. Did you do this in photoshop or did you use one of the other HDR software tools. I was looking into Hydra that is an Aperture plug-in. I just want to try some and any info would be great.
thanks

Looks pretty good to me, Phil. I have been using Photomatix and have been pretty happy with the way it works. I have McCollough's Book too. Another good one is the Rocky Nook publication.

I, too, would be interested in what you used on this -- in terms of the software and also in terms of the files you used to create it

I used Photomatix for this one. Brian if you get a chance to look at McCollough's book he lists some of the HDR programs and compares them in a table on page 70.

Nicely captured. Seems very under HDR'd to me. Too often it is easy to go over the top. If you had not said it I might not have guess it.

Although the centered sun works here I think it might also look good with the blue sky cropped out.

You've avoided the "stereotypical HDR look" (something I've been developing a workflow to do for the past couple of years) very well here.

Is it just me or is this in need of a CCW rotation?

Good job with the HDR treatment here. The top of the frame isn't doing much though, and I think a crop from the top would add to the overall composition.

Phil,

I think that you did a great job with the image and processing. I've hardly tried HDR (w/ PS), but it's something that I hope to improve upon in the future...

Nice job w/ the HDR processing..it's not overdone which is too often the problem w/ HDR. I would crop to more of a pano to eliminate some of, if not most of, the blue sky.

Nice image. Not sure about the HDR but if this is the result then it works for me. I would imagine that in larger size ti adds more than shows here. Would have been a nice sunrise to catch and I get a feel for moment in thim you caught.

I thought the image was a little tilted but when I looked at in grid view it appeared to be straight. The tilt might be an optical illusion. In the repost I did tilt the image and removed some of the sky.

I finally finished going though my photos from last weeks trip to Crex Meadows
And have posted them on my website. Lots of flowers, birds and sunrise and sunset pictures

I like this composition, it really brings out the FG elements in a way that got a little lost in the OP. Thanks for the repost, I like it a lot!!
