The Gallop
This bison was a week or two old when I photographed him a couple of weeks ago. I love the energy they have when they're young, so different from the lumbering beasts they become. This was taken with a Canon 400mm 2.8 + Kenko Pro 1.4, f5.6, 1/60th sec. panning, ISO 640, Gitzo 1325 tripod, Kirk King Cobra mount. Taken in color and converted to B/W

Too cute at that age.... The pan worked well giving a nice sense of motion. Overall this seems a little dark....I would like to be able to see his/her face a little better particularly the area around the eye.

Love the subject and comp, David, and that you panned. Viewing it on my setup, it seems a little dark overall. And the b/w is okay, but the little ones are such a neat color orange when they're young, I kinda miss seeing it. Makes me want to color a little of the orange back into the b/w... Anyway, so right about the contrast between the babies finding their legs and kicking up their heels, while the adults look like they couldn't move if their life depended on it. Of course not true. I'd hate to trying to run away from an adult.

Pretty good panning shot, DC. The shutter speed is perfect, keeping a good balance of sharp focus, yet conveying the movement well. I do agree about the darkness though. A little more light on the young'n wouldn't hurt, IMO.

Very cool shot but I do agree that it's a litttle flat and dark. correct your B&wWconversion and this would be excellent!

The panning effect is nice. It is very flat, however. Also agree with a little brighter and more contrast!

I'm curious about why the b&w conversion, but you sure nailed the action with this pan.
