Skylark in Flight
Usually a speck in the sky, this male had a close look at me before proceeding on to try and impress a nearby female. One of the best sights and sounds of the summer for me

1D3 + 300mm + 2xTC ISO:200 1/1000 sec @ f/7.1 handheld

Thanks for looking

Very nicely caught, Simon. I'm still trying to get these guys on the ground, let alone in the air like this.

That's a super shot Simon. I usually have a job just trying to find them in the sky.

Impressive stuff, can't see the cotton used to hold it up at all!
Very good indeed.

Surely, this is CGI technology  As others have already said, I can't even get an image of these on the ground. Top shot! :toast:

Spot on !
I remember seeing them do this over a predator near the nest site many years back. Never happens when the camera is ready though ! Good stuff.

Thanks for the comments  I've had them come close on various occasions this Spring but I've haven't nailed the focus or have had poor light so was glad to get this one. Managed a few half decent ground shots as well which I'll post in due course. Leaving them well alone now so they can get on with the little'uns.

I'm envious because I have tried this and failed miserably! I stumbled across a few when walking across a moor - they don't hang around. Very well done!

Very difficult to get these in flight, but you did it! Great shot.
