Thanks Daniel. Yes, on a real prairie. We visited a prairie in western MO. Planning to go back tomorrow and get some serious photos of the varieties that are in bloom.
Larry - People who have not spent any time in the prairie often think it is mostly empty space. They have no idea how rich the biological diversity can be. I used to know my prairie plants pretty well back when we did ecological sampling of undisturbed meadows in the mid 70s. I'm afraid that is way behind me now. I will look forward to seeing more of your images from the prairies of Western Missouri.
This photo was taken on a 240 acre virgin prairie which is being managed by Missouri Prairie Foundation. It even has some of the mounds that indicate it has never been plowed, I just can't recall what the proper name is for them. I attended a recent board meeting they held and was quite impressed with the quality of people affiliated with the group and their commitment to preserving prairie land in MO.
Larry, it's great to hear about the preservation efforts going on in Missouri. I volunteer with a couple of groups here in Kansas that are working to restore some prairie tracts. By the way, nice shot. I hope you got even more for your portfolio on your second trip.

Thanks Wayne. I joined the Missouri Prairie Foundation just recently. Attended one of their board meetings. Many knowledgeable and dedicated people in attendance. URL is www.moprairie.org .
I think I managed to get a few good images yesterday. Now to get them edited.
We did not have the amount of time I had hoped for as we stopped by an eagle nest with three immatures still residing. Darn leaves.
