Eden Falls
Hiked into Lost Valley last week and photographed Eden falls for about two hours.

It seemed like a difficult location to get a good composition that really shows it off. This might have worked with a person standing near it but in the rain the few that were around were not getting adventuresome so I used the foreground tree.

I would appreciate any ideas on photographing these falls. I tried shooting up from the pool but didn't care for any of those. Basically in a hole, shooting from higher up made the falls look even smaller.

Cambo Wide RS, 35mm, f/16, ISO 100, manual exposure of about 4 seconds.

Thanks for looking.

Pretty nice Ed. I can't offer any tips on the site as I have never visited it. Might have the rocks at top and upper right a bit bright, not by much though. The water flow is very nice until it gets to the very bottom, almost looks like a faster shutter speed was used on the bottom section.

Nice shot. I like the color depth and the triple falls captured in your image.

Permit me to expose my landscape photography ignorance ( Experience wise - I am only about 1/2 step up from point and shoot cameras! ) I had no idea what a Cambo Wide RS was! Had to google it to find out! As I understand it the camera provides tilt and shift adjustments to maintain the desired perspective. What back do you use?

I think this is really beautiful, I love the detail and sharpness throughout the image. I generally don't like people in landscape shots, but I think you are right, this one might benefit from a person in the scene, maybe down near the pool. As it is though, I think this is a really nice shot.

Ed, I have to agree with Scott, great detail and I think the tree gives it just the right amount of perspective.

Definitely a challenging location.

Daniel, I currently use a Phase One P45 back and love it. I have a P65+ on order and am really anxious to try out the Sensor+ feature which gives a 4X improvement in high ISO performance. MF digital is a different world but the quality of the image is hard to believe until you see it in print.

I think you've done well here Ed. Shooting from the lower angles wouldn't have given you the green that really makes this image stand out. I do see what you mean about loosing the perspective of size of the falls. Still, I like it without putting a person in it.
I tried shooting it this winter from the left as high up a slope as I could get and right up against the cliff. It lent an interesting angle including the cliff, but it was winter and turned out pretty grey...no great green color.

The technicals are wonderful Ed. The tree in the fg right gives some sense of scale to the scene. I like the perspective you chose for this shot too. Thanks for sharing!

Wow!! Really like this. Forget a person for scale, I like it just like it is. Well done.
