Meadow Pipit
1D2n, 600mm f4 is x1.4TC, 1/400s, f8, iso 400. Morning sunshine. Cropped to vertical.

I set up a portable hide for my first time and I immediately saw the benefits! Within no time I had this and several other birds come closer than minimal focusing distance. Because I was working with stones on water in bright conditions, I used a circular polariser to reduce reflections. I think the effect shows, but might be too much for some. I like the insects more than the bird!

Cracking image.Personally the rock/pebble in the fore is a distraction but other than that beautifully executed.

Ian, interested to know your rationale behind setting up your hide. What attracted you to set it up where you did? Shot works very well. The eye looks a bit odd though - nictating membrane perhaps? Polariser seem to be a good idea and colour looks great to me. Cheers, Mark

Hi Ian, I agree about the forground rock, ideally I want him to hop onto it
An image slightly different to normal but it works for me :toast:

Hi Ian,

Great shot and the polariser certainly was a good idea. Forground rock doesn't distract me. Look forward to seeing more.

A good strong portrait and the oof rock doesn't bother me at all. However, the cut off feet spoils it a bit for me.

The rationale was quite simple really - I had just bought it and wanted to see how it worked :jump: I had walked past the burn once before and had seen a few dippers. I also saw them elsewhere, but they took off as soon as I approached. So I thought I would put up the hide to see if they would stay - little buggers didn't appear! But the pipit did and a few wagtails too. Definitely have never got so close in the past. Major problem - I would have preferred to get lower. Not sure about the eye - I did notice a blue line which I took to be a reflection.

You'll be buying a low level one next, then make a floating hide, then a pylon, then there's the wooden variety and ones sunk into the ground.....you'll never have so much fun!!!! Cheers, Mark

If that's the first result from your hide work than I look forward to more! Cracking shot with bags of detail where it counts.
