Hey everyone, this may seem like a really stupid question, but I just got rid of my Rebel XTi and have upgraded to a 40D and I am nervous about putting my 70-300 Canon lens on it. Here is why- I am always very careful and overprotective of new cameras and, since this lens has been used (and served me well) around the globe, I'm afraid that since it "may" have some minor humidity issues, it will hurt my new 40D by using it with it. The lens is visibly clean and works fine, but while I wasi n Costa Rica this past April it malfunctioned a few times (it hasn't since I brought it back) and I just want to make sure putting this heavily used lens on my brand new 40D won't hamper the quality of my 40D. Is this a valid concern? Or am I being paranoid for nothing? I really would prefer to use a new lens (I really want to Canon L-series 100-400) but I just don't have the money right now. What would you suggest? :wavey:

Have you thought of taking the new camera and old lens to a trusted camera repair shop and have them check and test everything for you? If I was concerned about damaging a new camera, that's the route I would take.

It sounds like you have used the lens on the XTi and not damaged the camera by doing so. The 40D is more rugged so I don't see how it could be injured but as Catherine advises, if you are truly concerned have the lens checked for proper functioning. I share your lust for a 100-400 L but don't have one for the same reason you don't.
