I was wondering if anyone can give me a brief explanation of how to get an exposure longer that 30 seconds from my 5D markii. I have seen many images with super a long exposure of the night sky and would like to give this a shot. Thanks,
Mark
Mark, I'm not sure you can get an exposure over 30 seconds by using the on camera controls (other than using the Bulb setting which is useless in this case unless you can keep your finger on the shutter without moving the camera). I use a Canon TC-80N3 remote release to take most of my landscape shots.
See Floris van Breugel's superb tutorial titled 'The Twilight Hour' to answer many (most?) of your questions.

I use this remote to lock the shutter on my 5D2 (and on my former 5D) and it works great. For $16 including shipping, it can't be beat. However, if you were to start hiking for days in inclement weather, then Canon's more expensive version may hold up better, I just don't know. But to get started with time exposures, the Opteka is quite a bargain.
