Iconic Whitney
Shot this one with the 70-200mm f2.8 IS and 2x teleconverter.

The 2x seems to soften most of the stuff sometimes to where I wouldn't even think about using it.

What do you guys think?

It is hard to tell about the 2x at this size presentation. I would not mind a little more at the top and bottom. It feels a bit cramped to me.

Steve,

I really like this image of Whitney. Nice clouds and snow. I miss mtn photography like this which was what I shot mostly while living in CO. Was this taken recently?

The web size looks fine. But its pretty hard to tell what a print would look like in terms of detail or sharpness.

Fantastic shot Steve. Each time I have passed by, Whitney seemed to be covered in clouds so I haven't actually seen it before.

I did wait for the shadow on the top for this one so there was a lot of clouds that day Richard. I went to the top once in the evening and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. It was early June and the snow up there was hard to find a few seasons ago. Here is the uncropped version. Thanks for the feedback guys.

I am liking the additional headroom the original has espcially since you had interesting clouds. Maybe a little off the top would be good. But either way it is a very nice shot. It looks like it could have been taken mid winter with all that snow.

I think your 2x tc worked great here. I use a 1.4x. But I am thinking about doubling that up with another 1.4 for times likes these. Of course the 100-400L would be better, but thats a lot more $$.

The cloud formations near the top of Whitney was one of best things about the hike I took last year. This shot does well to remind me of that experience. I like the additional room in the second version, but I wouldn't mind seeing more contrast and the snow a bit more white. I think that'd make this pop just a little bit more. Nice shot!

Steve, no doubt an amazing site and truly a great formation. This image gave me fond recall of a shot I took many years ago with my 35mm gear with a 300mm f2.8 and 2x extender. Thanks for sharing this scene.
