Rich and I went up to Sugarhill today. Some trampling in places, but overall, I think more blooms than last time I went. The Sampler field is still low, but a bit better. People need to realize that if they walk off paths, they could very well be killing next years blooms as lupines are a biannual and only bloom the second year, then seed out. The field below the church with the old hay rake was very trampled around the hay rake, even with cigarette butts. It was disappointing to see that.
The good news is we got there early and it was raining. No people, no ticks, no waiting in line at Polly's Pancakes.
Anyway, this is from the field above the hay rake, behind the church.
Great shot...I like shooting these subjects in the rain.
I was at the hayrake yesterday morning. Followed a herd path, and got in my mind, respectfully close. At the time, there was only one herd path...but yesterday was a beautiful day which I'm sure brought out lots of people.
I agree with you about trampling...I wish people would follow a herd path...and that'd be that...but everyone is looking for their unique shot...
And as big as the trampling problem is...I think that the new house at the sampler field, and the other land for sale on sunset hill is a bigger concern...
Dang! I was there in SugarHill on the 13th and the 14th too! I should've given a notice here before making my short and quick trip. The rain on Sunday was just amazing - I drove around Crawford Notch and over to Jackson and Gorham and back to Franconia ... too bad I had to return Sunday night itself!
Nice photo there but I was somehow surprised by the overdose of the blue-purple colored lupines - I was expecting to see more pink. Pearl lake - I went to scout that area but never managed to find the lake ... but I guess it didn't matter in the end because it was raining heavily later on anyways.

Tom and I were there this weekend too! We definitely should have all communicated! I did not see many people out, especially Sunday morning because of the light mist (which was great, less bugs and great photo op conditions). We ate at Polly's all four mornings!
Sunday morning we were at the hayrake (it was not too badly trampled at that point and I did not see any garbage) and St. Matthews from 6:30am until 10:45am. The light mist was great and the bright overcast sky created some great light. I posted a few photos on my Blog but did not have time edit anything. http://breaphotos.blogspot.com/
There were some photographers from NHCC and WCC and we joked that we should have stopped at the antique store and all chipped in $5 for a wagon wheel and left it back at Sugar Hill. Pearl Lake was great as was Pickett's crossing and Timber Lane.
