I put out a new perch on Friday evening, and within 20 mins it was being used. More perches will be put out in the next week, I hope they like them as much.

Don't put out too many Danielle otherwise you wont know which way to turn next.
Like the look and the complimentry BG. also the little pieces of weed make the perch that more exceptable. Only MO but try to pick a perch that hasnt got the branches chopped off unaturally.
Major.

Hi Danielle,

I agree with the comments above, both positive and negative, the reflection in the eye is also great. Only minor thing is there is a slight halo around the bird which caught my eye as soon as the pic loaded. Seems like I notice it more.

I'm looking forward to some more.

A very nice relaxed pose, set against a good, unobtrusive backdrop.
As Chris says, there is a very slight 'bloom' around the bird, the sort of effect that can happen when using the Shadow/highlight tool with too high a radius set. It's generally best to make a selection of just the area you want the adjustment targeted to.
Still a very fine shot indeed.

Hi Danielle, lovely background to the image, agree with Chris re: Halo and Major with regard your perch.

Nice Job :toast:

Thanks for the comments, I now see the halo too, it wasn't until Justin mentioned the radius option that I saw the little check box that said "more options" I think the jpg compression doesn't help either. I didn't do much to this, just a bit of levels, highlights and a little sharpening.

The small lake where I took this, is going to be extended this coming winter, so any perches put in will be only temporary, I am in discussion with the reserve manager about more permenant (and photogenic) perches, they are so keen they are even talking about a new hide and newly designed banks for nesting.:jump:

I think during the week I will check out the old log piles for something a little weathered, or I might pinch Jeroen's perches

Cheers :toast:
