Hi Maggie, Lovely pose. On my screen it looks like you have some blown out highlights on the head, also not sure if the eye is 100% sharp. As the owner of a 50-500 and taking advice from others on the forum I tend to back mine off a touch from the 500mm mark as I was not happy with my shots at 500mm which did not seem as sharp as they should have.
Hi maggie, agree with the nits already covered .The grass appears sharpish which appears to be in the same focal plane as the beak/eye and at 7.1 one would expect them to be sharp too. Love the contrast between the dark blues and the bird .
Scott that is interesting about the 50-500 because I nearly always use it at 500 and never feel I get really sharp images. My Nikon 70-300 produces much sharper images. Will try backing off and see what difference it makes.
Thanks Keith. Am hopefully getting out tomorrow so will experiment at under 500mm and see if I can get sharper images. Assuming that something turns up

Thanks again
Like the dark almost stormy background sets the bird of very well.I have a Sigma 50-500 and i agree with Scott about sharp images.
