Can anyone recommend a place to camp between Page, Az and Kanab, Ut? I am heading to Zion next week and instead of driving the 10 hrs straight through I thought I would camp somewhere between Page and Kanab. I will be towing a 15' pop-up (with off-road package--shocks and high ground clearance) with my FJ cruiser. I generally prefer Forest Service or BLM campsites or campgrounds followed by State/National parks. I avoid commercial "camps" like the plague. I would also be interested in a campsite that might have some things to shoot nearby for sunset/sunrise (I'll have the time). Thanks in advance! :toast:

I'd suggest the White House Campground - BLM Fee site. It's 2-3 miles past the Cottonwood Canyon Road.

It's been a few years since I have been there, but I remember there are some crossbedded sandstones that were nice at sunset.

However, I'd recommend the Rimrocks Hoodoos for sunset. These are a short hike off Hwy 89, about a mile east of the Paria Contact Station. The parking area is obvious.

What Bill said.
This is the campground at the Paria River Ranger Station where the White House trailhead begins and where folks pick up permits for the N. & S. Coyote Buttes. It's located near mile marker 21.
Also highly recommend the Rimrock hoodoos for late afternoon/sunset photography. It's an easy 1/4 mile hike.
Parking area is at mile marker 20.

I usually just use the Walmart Parking lot

I'll recommend the White House trailehead as well. Plus it's puts you about 20 minutes from the rimrock hoodoos that John mentioned...depending how quick you move

Thanks for the suggestions! I looked up the White House campground and it says it only has 5 tent sites. Do you think I can get my pop-up trailer in there? I wonder if I'll have trouble getting one of the sites? I'm arriving there on a Sunday night so the weekend warriors should all be heading home. Is there any camping on Cottonwood Canyon road? I guess I could keep going to Ponderosa or the Coral Pink Sand Dunes too. Can't wait to get back into the Narrows!!
