Well, it looks as if my time here in Colorado may be up. I've posted about the topic before, but I officially accepted a new teaching job in the Austin, TX area so my wife and I can be back near family. We have another baby (another girl!) on the way in November, which further prompted the relocation. Anyways, on Saturday and Sunday I embarked on what will probably be my last 14er trip while living in Colorado Springs. I climbed Handies for the second time on Saturday evening and then completed the trip with the ascents of Sunshine and Redcloud on Sunday. The conditions on Handies Saturday evening were incredibly winter-like...in fact, I have never experienced conditions like what we experienced. Steady 40 mph winds above 13,000 ft and near whiteout conditions. It was unreal and a little scary. Fortunately, conditions, while cold and windy, were much better on Sunday. Follow the link to look at all my pictures from the trip if you'd like:

The shot above was taken Sunday morning around 5:30 while hiking up the basin to Sunshine. 3 shots stitched.

Sorry to hear you've got to leave Colorado, but it looks like you've made the most of your time here. You certainly got a nice set of photos from this outing.

That's great you managed to get in one last hike up a few 14'ers, and came away with some great images!. I like #2 and #5, #5 in particular with the storm clouds, and contrast between white snow and red jackets!.

Check out all that snow!!! Sorry to hear you're leaving Colorado, but Austin isn't in another country. Stay in touch, and come up for a visit when you can. Congrats on the pending baby girl!

The stitch is beautiful. I like the final shot you posted here too, the red jackets are a nice contrast with the white snow and interesting clouds.

Well, if you gotta move to Texas, then Austin is an excellent choice!
You sure went out with a bang, though...these are terrific images!!

Congratulations on the future new addition to your family, as well. Stay in touch, y'hear?

Thanks, everyone, for the encouragement and comments. I have been blessed to have lived here for almost five years and to be able to get out and explore this amazing state. There are so many more places I need to travel to in Colorado, so I'll be back countless times for sure.

Hi Justin,
Wow, that must have been quite a trip! Checked out your flicker album, as well. They are all great shots, but I love the pano and the silouhette shots! Sorry you have to leave Colorado, but wishing you the best of luck with your new job and new addition to your family.

Really nice series, Justin. Make sure you send along some great Texas sunset shots once in awhile, will you?

Justin,

You should frame as many of those as possible.....the larger the better!

Hopefully they will HELP keep you cooler as we are already past the century mark here.

102 yesterday and expect 104 today and tomorrow with lows of about 80 at night.

The next 7 days calls for 100+ each day......and it is only June.

Funny, yesterday when I looked on my iTouch it was 97 in Austin and 63 in Ridgeway.
Made me want to fire up the 4Runner and hall A to Ridgeway.
