I went to this marsh in east Palo Alto hoping to see tons of birds, and it was desertic. Maybe only a dozen or so birds only, 3 species.
Maybe I need to go there at 5AM? Besides that it's a marsh, with high voltage lines, planes of every shape and size flying over every minute, a bit dirty from boat garbage and abandonned constructions.

The only thing noteworthy was the abandonned railroad tracks.

Disappointing.

Seeing these tracks covered with growth reminds me of being a kid and getting into stuff I wasn't supposed to be getting into. Almost like the stand by me movie. Dan, there is usually better light at 5am unless it's overcast.

Wierd seeing the tracks swallowed up by the growth, and I like how they lead out into the distance.
Try your luck for birds in the morning. In my experience, with a few exceptions, they are always more active and easier to photograph in the morning, before the daily winds kick up. Never been to Ravenswood, but would recommend nearby Palo Alto Baylands or the end of San Antonio Road, if birding is your goal.

Thanks. I think Ravenswood and Bayland are close and can be connected via a hike...

Dan, I like the comp too, but would like to see it in less harsh light. Overall I got the same feelings & impression Steve did from the scene and the movie Stand By Me. Excellent movie and song too.
