Mono Lake Tufa
As luck would have it the one morning I got to go to Mono Lake before sunrise had to be cloudy with nothing but flat light type day. Oh Well, I'm going to share anyway. I have put two different Mono Lake images over on Earth Sea and Sky so I'll put one last one over here.

Nikon D300 with Nikon 18-200 AF DX VR lens, 1/6, f22, ISO 200, Polarize Tripod

Processed in Nikon Capture NX2 and sized CS3 for the web.

Dan, yes the light does do that every now and then but at least you didn't hike ten miles which it also can happen then too. June is usaully more clear, the earth must be trying to give us one last cool blast before the blazing hot summer. You filled the frame pretty well with texture. The top of the image looks as if it might benefit from some darkening with a layer adjustment. The Tioga Crest make for a nice back drop.

Dan, this came out nicely even with the subdued lighting. It's one thing when nature takes it's course and supplies the flat light, it's another thing when man cause it through a variety of issues, including aircraft contrails. :frown:

Dan,

I actually like the overcast light for the tufa, cause when that sun is barrelling down on the tufa, they're just too hot. Nice texture and detail in the tufa and reflections. I'm kinda wishing the mountains had that same crispness, but the conditions were what they were. Another nice take from Mono Lake.
